FAQ

The following Frequently Asked Questions with answers pertain to the Cecil Soccer League’s In-House program only.

Where are practices held?
Practice locations are typically left up to the individual coaches. Many coaches practice at Meadow Park. Some coaches practice at local schools.

When are games?
All games are held on Saturdays. Schedules are provided to the coaches 1-2 weeks prior to the beginning of the season.

My child has never played before. Can she be placed on a younger aged team?
Cecil Soccer League policy does not allow for a player to play “down” in age unless they are physically or mentally handicapped. The Cecil Soccer League Board of Directors must approve any request of this nature.

I sent my child’s registration and check in 2 months ago and haven’t heard from anyone. When will I find out what team my child is on?
Teams are formed after sufficient registration forms have been received. The coaches are notified of their rosters and schedules approximately 1 – 2 weeks prior to the first game of the season. The coaches are responsible for contacting individual players.

My child doesn’t like the coach or some of the players on his / her team. How can I get them on a different team?
Generally, the Cecil Soccer League does not allow players to switch teams, once the rosters have been made. This causes teams with insufficient players or teams with too many players to allow for sufficient playing time for all players. Please discuss your concerns with your head coach. If there are serious concerns, the coach must contact his / her coordinator to request any changes. The Cecil Soccer League can not guarantee that any changes will be allowed.

My child isn’t getting as much playing time as the rest of the players. Who can I talk to?
The policy of the Cecil Soccer League is that all players must play at least ½ of each game. If you feel that your child isn’t receiving sufficient playing time, please discuss this with your child’s coach. The coach may be unaware of the situation, as it is difficult at times to make sure each player has played at least ½ the time.

Will my daughter have to play with boys?
Cecil Soccer now has separate boy and girl divisions. It is the Leagues goal to build the number of girls teams, thus there are no longer co-ed teams at the U-8 and U-10 ages (some of the older divisions still have grandfathered co-ed teams)

I want to coach my child’s team, who do I have to contact?
The Cecil Soccer League is always looking for volunteer coaches. Simply mark on your registration sheet that you wish to be a head coach or an assistant coach. Due to the variances from one season to the next in the amount of players registered, the Cecil Soccer League can not guarantee that you will be given a team. All coaches are notified within 1-2 weeks of the beginning of each season.

I would like to coach, but don’t know much about soccer, are there any clinics or training offered to coaches?
It is the Cecil Soccer League’s goal to offer as much training as possible. Clinics are scheduled based on the amount of interested coaches. There are many books available at the Cecil County Public Library’s that discuss proper coaching techniques and the rules of the game. Most of the time a coach only needs to be able to work with small children and encourage them to play and have fun.

Mission Statement

The objective of youth soccer should be for the players to have fun. Coaches and parents should teach good sportsmanship, self-reliance, and teamwork. The emphasis should not be on winning, but on team participation and self-improvement in skills, coordination, and strategy.

The goal of every youth soccer coach should be to provide every player with opportunities to reach his maximum potential in the game of soccer. Coaches must balance fun and discipline according to the ages and ability levels of their players. Coaches should evaluate players’ strengths and weaknesses in such areas as size, speed, physical strength, endurance, coordination, ball control, and tactical abilities-the ability to read and understand the game of soccer.

The league places the game of soccer ahead of any desire to win, regardless of level of play. If any administrator or coach, no mater how capable, fails to control his, or has players who consistently contravene the laws of soccer, the League will act to remedy the situation. Disciplinary action may include the suspension or expulsion of either the coach, the player, or the team. Such discipline should only come when absolutely necessary and only after the other avenues for remedial action have been exhausted.
